The Rest Day

Laying right next to knowing how to work hard, lies the concept, knowing how to rest. One thing my coach Lenny Preheim would always remind me was, “you have to make your hard days harder than you can imagine, and you easy days, easier than you can imagine.”
Knowing how to rest is an art, and it is a talent. From my experience, the best athletes in the world all know how to chill on their day off. For some athletes however, they are clueless about this concept, and ultimately minimize their growth.
I like to have at least one day a week where there is very minimal movement. Walking, jogging after Maximus, and finishing up some house work is about all the physical activity I’d like to do if I have busting it for the entire week.
Resting will allow your mind to recharge and your body recovery. Stretch and massage on your day off. That too will act as an active recovery exercise and your body will be ready to go the next day.
If by chance you still feel tired the following day, listen to your body, and keep the intensity low, but the duration the same. This will keep your weight in check, and still allow you the pleasure of training!
