Gimel’s Corner - The John Isner Interview
Posted September 17, 2009 – 2:42 pm in: Pegasus Internet Training Program
I had a great time interviewing today’s and yesterday’s tennis stars. John played for NCAA powerhouse, Georgia, and not only has a gigantic serve, but a gigantic heart.
Right after this interview, Johnny took down American compatriot, Andy Roddick, in what many have called the match of the 2009 US Open.
In this interview, John reflects on his formative years, and how college was the right choice to make.
Some fans of PisaniTraining have asked if I was working with Izz…my reply, “not yet.”
Enjoy this interview, for it is a MUST for every junior American tennis player to learn from!

My comment for the US men’s performance At the Open: Roddick and Isner both played great in their match. AR was a little unlucky that Isner was in the zone that day. Being a huge USTA fan, I felt Andy had the best chance of going the distance after his performance at Wimbledon. To be honest, I was caught off balance when Isner and his Mom did so much fist-pumping during the match. Yeah, his serve and touch volleys were perfect, but it would have been classy if he had pocketed the fist…especially since Roddick gave US Tennis that fantastic performance at Wimbledon, Davis cup countryman, etc.
Hey Kevin, you nailed it on the head, both guys played their hearts out and gave it 100 percent effort. I am a fan of the USTA as well, and of USA Tennis. I don’t know if John should have “pocketed the fist”…if you watch Andy in his early days, there was plenty of fist pumping going on there. To me, that is a positive physical response that the young and hungry players all demonstrate. As a coach, you like to see that positive energy from your player. It shows he has passion for winning. Regardless of who is on the other side of the net, you can’t blame a guy for giving it his all. I really don’t think there was any sort of gamesmanship going on, and if you were at the match, Andy had many supporters, and they were eating the high positive energy up!
