“The Giro Starts Tuesday”
Posted May 18, 2009 – 4:20 pm in: Cycling
In one of his latest Twitter entries, Lance Armstrong said that the “real” Giro begins after Monday’s rest day. And his Astana teammate Chris Horner confirmed in his blog for The Oregonian, “the real battle to become the winner of the … Giro will begin to build” with Tuesday’s epic stage 10 through the Italian Alps.
Lance is now going to be working for his teammate, Levi Leipeheimer, who lies in 4th place, 51 seconds behind the race leader Diluca. Levi has been know to get stronger by the third week of these grand tours, but has yet to win one.
If Levi is to falter, look for Lance to try and get away with the leaders on the steep slopes of the Italian Alps. Lance could get better as the race progresses, but I really think he knows this isn’t going to be his Giro, and is prepared to do whatever it takes to make sure his team comes out on top.
Stay tuned for some serious action tomorrow!!!!
