Single Leg Squat with the TRX Suspension Trainer
Posted November 11, 2009 – 11:50 am in: Amelia Island Personal Training, Coach's Corner, Pegasus Internet Training Program, Tennis FitnessThe single leg squat with the TRX Suspension Trainer has become my favorite leg exercise. I have always felt that double squats were bad for the lower back and hindered movement.
Here is former number 1 player from Florida University, Tyler Hochwalt training in my gym. Although today was the first time that we have trained together in person, we have been training on the internet together via the use of Pegasus Trainer. It was great to have him in town. There is no doubt in my mind that if continues to get fitter, he will climb the rankings. Just 2 weeks ago Tyler qualified for the main draw of a future and notched his first win over a top 300 player, Victor Estrella; 6-1, 7-5.
The single leg squat with the suspension trainer is similar to that of the swiss ball single leg crunch in that you have some resistance to help ease the difficulty of the exercise. Everything we do is primarily single leg. Whether it is hopping, walking, running, or bounding, those movements are all single leg activated.
I am slowly working this exercise into all of my clients routines, and am excited to have found such a safe and functional exercise for single leg strength training.
