Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men’s tennis team dropped their final match of the regular season this afternoon at the McDonough Tennis Complex, 5-2 to George Washington. The Hoyas lost four tie-breakers in singles play but managed to take the doubles point from the Colonials.
Michael Clarke (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) lost his first set to GW’s Yan Levinski at the No. 1 position, 6-1, but the freshman erased a 5-2 deficit in the second set and won 7-6 before taking the third set, and the match, 6-4. David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School), Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) and Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Pauls’s (N.H.)) all took at least one of their sets to a tie-breaker, but the trio was unable to garner a point for the Blue & Gray.
In doubles play, the duo of Mieszko Tomczyk (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hunter College H.S.) and Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) earned a win at the No. 1 spot, 8-3, over Ugur Atalay and Richard Blumenfeld of GW. The Hoyas took the point with a win from the pairing of Wong and Tillem. The upperclassmen defeated Erik Hanna and Arya Vayghan, 9-7.
