Improving your Drive - Erik Brumme
Posted April 17, 2009 – 6:55 am in: Amelia Island Personal Training, GolfPrior to Tuesday morning when this video was taken, Erik Brumme hadn’t hit a golf ball for the past 12 days. He had traveled back and forth from Miami for a National car race; which he raced in, raced for 2 more days in Savannah, took the family to Orlando for a 5 day vacation, and had worked out with me about 5 times.
This however, did not stop him from shooting a 77 on the Tom Fazio course at beautiful Amelia National Country Club in Amelia Island and taking his opponents hard earned cash.
In order to increase his distance on all of his woods, Erik and I have been working hard on increasing his core strength and hip stability. He has gotten stronger in the press n pull, but unfortunately we simply have not had the ability to string a few really solid weeks to get to the next level. There is no rush and I am certain he is just a fraction of the way to reaching his potential; at age 60.
Flexibilty is very important and a solid 20 mins of each training session is geared toward this. In this blog you will see a couple partner based stretches that are important and effective in gaining and improving Flexibility. By doing so, you will get more snap and torque on your drive and will prevent you from missing out on the game from having a sore back.

HAMSTRING
Erik once told me that after playing for 7 days in a row, (knock on wood) that he had zero back stiffness or pain. After playing golf for the past 30 years, this was a first for him. I attribute this to picking the right exercises and improving spinal alignment through the training. I do not use any machines when I train clients, and make sure they are never compromising spinal positioning.
