How do you take your Coffee - On the Rocks!

I was at Starbuck’s this morning ordering my coffee when the lady serving me inquired about my odd way of taking my coffee. A frequent customer at The Buck, Leslie knows that I always get a large Pikes Place Coffee with a Large Glass of Ice. (The Pike’s Place roast is one of my favorites and is named after the very first Starbuck’s in Seattle, Washington).

Today, she finally asked me why I did this.

Seeing that I wrote about the Starbuck’s Oatmeal and had a few people inquire about that, I thought I would write about the reasoning as to why I pour my hot Pike’s Place Blend of coffee onto a large, glacier size, cup of Ice. Believe me, there is madness to my reasoning, and it all is about effectiveness at the work place and being nutritionally conscious when I have my breakfast in the morning.

It is no secret that coffee is a diuretic and that it dehydrates your system because of the caffeine. This is where the ice comes in. By melting ice in the coffee, you instantly hydrate your system and prevent noticeable dehydration from taking place. Also, if you are looking to get the caffeine stimulate into your system quickly, the coolness of the drink allows you to consume the coffee at a much higher rate.

With the right amount of coffee on ice, I feel energized and I don’t crash. This comes in handy when I have to have high energy for every single minute of my training sessions.

By saying no to cream and sugar, I do not take in any extra calories and my body thanks me for not putting in the worthless and harmful sweeteners, dairy products and sugars.

So try my coffee before your next training session or competition and tell me what you think!
