Here we Go! Time for the Giro!

The Giro d’Italia has always been one of my favorite races. The only American to ever win this race was Andy Hampsten, back in the old 7 Eleven days.
Now, Lance Armstrong is going after his first ever Giro. On Saturday, May 9th the Giro opens up with a Team Time Trial. This is an interesting way to start a stage race. How will they know who is in the coveted Pink Jersey? I will find this out in the days to come.
To the right you will see the latest pic of Lance’s bike that he will ride in the TTT. As you can see, it looks as though it can reach Mach 4 in less than 10 seconds!
The first test for the cyclists will come on Tuesday, May 12th, where they will visit a couple steep mountains, with one killer climb to finish off the stage. Lance will need to be in this front group. It will be fun to see if anyone can put time on each other here, but really this will be a test for the boys to see who is going to be a contender.
Stay tuned for updates

wow…this will be my first Giro as well.
Versus has been doing a really good job of covering a good deal of the classics since switching over from being called the Outdoor Life Network.
I have experienced a good number of cycling races this year that in the past I was only able to read about. Seeing it on tv isn’t quite the same as being there, but liggett, sherwin, and roll are a upgrade to having the results tucked into a boxscore in the back of the local paper.
I’m psyched for the Giro.
