Continuous Platform Jumps

There are many ways to get faster and one of them is by performing different types of plyometrics. Plyometrics is defined as “a type of exercise using explosive movements to develop muscular power, esp. bounding, hopping, and jumping.”

I like having some of my more advanced clients perform about 20 to 30 jumps per training session. You need to have acquired a fair amount of eccentric strength before starting these. This is one of the problems that I have with the P90x program. There is no gradual progression to lead you to such a complex and advanced exercise.

Michael Boyle, a top strength and conditioning coach from Boston, MA, insists his students follow a rigid 12 week program that advances the athletes progressively from week to week. This is important for injury prevention and teaching the nervous system the movement pattern. His site is great www.functionalstrengthcoach.com

You want to be like a “super ball”, bouncing off the ground, as your feet hit it. When you land, bend at the knees and have your weight on your heels.
As with all exercises, you have to check with your doctor before performing these jumps.
