“CHANGE” - No need to be afraid …

Change is something that is seen all the time in our world, but for some reason, when that word is used on the tennis court or in the gym, it brings fear and doubt into the minds of most players. They are resistant to make changes or adjustments that are necessary to reach their full potential because of the fear that the word has on them in relation to the tennis court and their game.
The majority want to do what “feels comfortable” for them, as opposed to making the necessary changes that may be uncomfortable at first, but will result in great improvement over time. Many tennis players grow up learning various techniques, mechanics, and other methods that are taught by the majority of tennis coaches. Throughout my experience of working with tennis players and coaches , hearing what their other coaches taught them, and the imprint that it leaves in their heads leads me to believe that they have all developed what I would refer to as “bad habits”.
Now, while it is common in our culture to resist change and always go with what has worked, I have always believed that change is a positive thing and needed in order to succeed in today’s world. Evolution has shown us great changes that were necessary for survival and success. Why not realize that change is needed in order to break those “bad habits,” embrace change as a positive move, and turn those habits into GOOD ones needed to reach one’s full potential.
