brtAt the Country Club that I work at, Amelia National, is a small gym that has about 7 or 8 pieces of fancy Life Fitness Equipment. There is a Leg Press, Smith Machine, Leg Extension and Curl and one Chest Press , and Row. All of these machines require that you sit down while performing them, and although there are different settings to lower or raise the seat, unlike free weights, there is no perfect way to set them for each individual. dumbbells-hex

I set up a personal training studio across from the fitness center so that I could train my clients. You will see that with minimal investment, you can create a very effective fitness center of your own. With the right exercises you can hit all the major movement patterns.

I bought most of my equipment at Target, and a few specialty items, like my medicine balls, at Perform Better.com .

Here is a list of equipment that I recommend

Dumbbells - 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25 pounds

Swiss Balls - Size is dependent upon your height. Rule of Thumb: Make sure that when you sit on it, you have a 90 degree bend at your knees.

Step Up Box - I bought the Reebok Step up and made my own Plyo Box. bosu_ball

Bosu Ball - Love this for some Key Exercises

Resistance Bands - Red, Blue, Black are the colors I have

Perfect Pushup - See also my blog on that one!perfectpushup

Cones - great for setting up change of direction agility drills

Kettlebells - I have 7, 10 , 15, and 20kettlebells1

Rubber Mat - love this for pilates, yoga, stretching and poses
