Agility Drill of the Week - Lateral Med Ball Shuffle
Posted September 14, 2009 – 1:07 am in: Tennis InstructionThis week’s Agility Drill of the Week is the Lateral Med Ball Shuffle and it is demonstrated by no other than Tennis Phenom, Ashley Harkleroad of Malibu, CA.
I had a chance to work with Ashley off and on over the years and I have to preface this video viewing with letting you know that she is a great athlete and makes this one look easy!
At 5 ft 8 inches tall, Ash can stay low to the ground, as she rotates her torso with the 4 pound medicine ball . This is timed, and combined with her laterally EXPLODING from foot to foot. Balance is key when you land and is important in order to land on your foot properly.
I like timing this one for 10 to 40 seconds intervals. It’s a great drill to mix into a circuit in the weight room because as you can see, it will get your heart rate up there.
Be properly warmed up before performing this exercise, and always consult with a physician.
Enjoy,
Le P

Let me know what you think of this one guys. When scheduling your training for the week, pick one day for “lateral” movement, and one day for “linear”.
