I love the treadmill. Always have, Always will.

The treadmill is a perfectly flat surface with a softer landing material than concrete. It’s smooth to run on, and doesn’t have any varying undulations that may cause injury. The programmer can set the incline to resemble a steep mountain in France, or the flatlands of Yulee, Florida.

In this video are two junior players from Hilton Head, SC, Ashley and Natalie Kitchen.

A long time ago, at my first junior race, I ran into now cycling legend, George Hincapie. He was 12 years old, had a small mustache, and had done well in the race. “What do you do? You know…for like training?” I asked him. “I do uphill Sprints! Guido Bontempi does uphill sprints! ”

So ever since that day, I have made it a point to incorporate short uphill sprints days into my clients program. These quick bursts of speed can help raise your metabolism and get you to where you want to be quickly.

As the old UCLA Coach, John Wooden use to say, “Be quick! but don’t Hurry!”
