Exercise of the Week - Superman! - Alternating Opposites

Posted July 2, 2009 – 6:46 am in: Pegasus Internet Training Program

Here is one of the most popular exercises that I like to have ALL of my clients do. This exercise is great for working your core, balance, and gluteus maximus.

In this video is the Big Bozz, aka, Amer Delic. Amer is in town for 10 days of some very hard training. Plagued by some injuries over the last year has left the big guy unable to train properly. When you have a nice 2 week break in the season, you can string together a series of comprehensive workouts that can take your fitness to another level.

This is one of the many exercises that I have been using with Amer this week to make sure his body is well balanced and functioning at full throttle.

Stay tuned for some more killer content!

Motorpacing with The Big Bozz

Posted June 29, 2009 – 3:26 pm in: Pegasus Internet Training Program

Amer Delic and I have had a lot of fun in the past and the last few days of training have been no exception.

Fresh off a 10 day vacation, the kid they call the Big Bozz, showed up to Amelia Island for a 12 day training camp that will be geared to getting the big guy back in shape and winning again.

One mode of training that I like to incorporate once in awhile is motorpacing. Motor pacing is an old cycling technique that cyclists use to get in phenomenally fast and fit shape.

The plan with Amer this week is not only to hit a lot of balls, but to get his whole body balanced, stronger and more powerful. In order to be quick, the big guy has to be light.

When riding behind the car, the wind is blocked, thus making it easier to go faster for the rider.

We only road for about 30 mins and this provided us with a great leg and lung burn. MORE TO COME!

Welcome: Parker Kate Pisani !

It’s a good thing that the Pisani’s train regularly because we sure needed it the other night!

Laying in bed at 11 pm, my wife Lindsay complained of having some uncomfortable contractions. This was no surprise since the due date for our daughter was July 3rd. parkerkatepisani-038
After another 45 mins of regular contractions, Lindsay decided it was time to go to the hospital.
I grabbed my 2 year old Maximus, and Lindsay and I dashed in the car for the 50 minute drive to the delivery room.
The car ride was filled with regular, painful screaming, and the usual words of encouragement, coming from this coaches mouth… “You got this!!!” and “Your an animal!, So Strong!…”Only a couple more and you will be done with all this. You are doing great!!!!”
Like something out of the movies or reality tv, I pulled up to the front door of the emergency room at 90 mph and escorted my wife to the front door.
It was now 1 in the morning and Max was in the car sleeping so I had to leave my wife with the 2 nurses and a wheelchair. Quickly, I went and parked the car in the parking garage, and then ran with Max in the stroller up to the the 3rd floor room.
As I entered the room, no more than 6 minutes later, out came Parker Kate Pisani! 6 pounds 12 ounces and 20 inches long! Unreal! All Organic Birth Engaged!

Kendrick to play Murray

Posted June 20, 2009 – 6:16 am in: Pegasus Internet Training Program

kendofrench When it comes to drawing the big guns at Slams, Pisani Training’s own, Robert Kendrick could be one of the best.

Known for his 2nd round heroics of losing a 5 set match to last year’s winner, and latest withdrawal from Wimby, Rafael Nadal, Kendrick is no foreigner to playing big matches. kendosweeting-004

Kendrick last played Murray in the 4th round of the Miami Super Nine, losing handily in straight sets.

This match will be different, with Robert coming in playing some of his best tennis to date.

There is no need to motivate yourself for a match like this. Wimbledon brings out the very best in all of the tennis players that have earned the right to play there. Adrenal will be high and any pain that may occur will be sweet.

Look for White Shadow to give it his all on Court Central come early next week. This is going to be one hell of a match!

Tic, Toc, Tic, Toc - Tour Right Around the Corner

Posted June 20, 2009 – 6:04 am in: Cycling

lancearmstrong72305In less than two weeks, the Tour de France will start and for the first time in Lance Armstrong’s last 8 starts, he will NOT be the odds long favorite. With a power house team that includes Levi Leipheimer, Alberto Cantador, Yaroslav Popovich, and Ivan Navarro it is very possible that Lance may have to take over the role of domestique and work for one of his team mates. lancelegs Since the conclusion of the Giro D’Italia , Lance has packed up shop and has been training in Aspen, CO.

There, he and some of his teammates can find long, isolated roads that lead up and down through incredible mountain passes. The training in Colorado is also significant because of the thin air and lack of oxygen. This is known to many as “legal blood doping”. By training at altitude, your body has to adjust, and as a result, your body produces more red blood cells.

As you can see by the most recent picture of Lance’s legs, he is very fit, and is looking to be at his fighting weight. He has been going at the training and racing very hard since last October for the start of the Tour. The clock is ticking and quite possibly the best Tour of all time is about to begin.

So Cal Juniors Ready for Sectionals

Posted June 19, 2009 – 6:31 pm in: Strength Training, Tennis, Tennis Fitness, Tennis Instruction

Just completed a great session with Spencer Simon and Campbell Johnson, both from Southern California.

The boys are getting ready to start doubles tomorrow, and singles qualifying on Sunday.

Today we did a light workout in the gym which included some strength training, plyometrics, core work, and agility speed work.

On the court, we kept it simple and warmed up for awhile, and then played a couple baseline games. Because of the doubles tomorrow, I had one guy at the net volleying cross court to the junior in the corner. This is great for taking the ball early and getting the ball cross court, away from the net player.

Both these kids are very talented and I expect them to do well. Look for some updates to come soon!

Pressing Exercise of the Week - Alt Arm Chest Press

Posted June 14, 2009 – 5:42 pm in: Amelia Island Personal Training, Endurance Training, Golf, Tennis Fitness

Here is one of the best exercises that you can do. In this video is Pepperdine Tennis standout, Moody Kamel.

The Alt Arm Press, works on increasing your upper body strength by using an isometric hold, for every rep.

By holding one db up high, you also train your core musculature because you are fighting gravity with a heavy resistance.

Start off light with this one and practice it with good form. A lot of my clients tend to place both of the dumbbell’s near their chest. This is incorrect and you want to always be sure to have the db’s above your chest and arms locked.

First Day of Training Camp Underway in Malibu

Posted June 11, 2009 – 9:55 pm in: Endurance Training, Personal Training, Power Training, Strength Training, Tennis, Tennis Fitness, Tennis Instruction

newvarious-034Greetings from Malibu, CA, where Pisani Training is camping out for the next week and a half.

Back in action is former world number 39, Ashley Harkleroad. After giving birth just 2 months ago to little Charles Adams the 4th, Ashley is back on the court and in the gym, getting ready for team tennis and hopefully the USOpen.newvarious-028

I have to be honest with you, she hasn’t missed a beat when it comes to hitting the ball. In fact, she could very well be hitting the ball even better now.

The new racket from Prince, and the fact that Ashley has been carrying a 15 pound baby boy around, has helped her upper body get strong and there was considerable pop on all of her shots today.

The main thing that I am going to do is to get all of her strength back, increase her endurance, and get her moving again. Today I worked on some on-court agility, more specifically linear movement, and then in the gym we worked legs, core and forehand and serve explosiveness with dumbbell strength training.

Interval Exercise of the Week - Out of Seat Bike Interval

Posted June 11, 2009 – 1:16 am in: Cycling, Endurance Training, Tennis Fitness

Here is Ashley Harkleroad performing an out of the seat bike interval. As you can see, you don’t have to make the interval so hard that it becomes a death march.

I have Ash going at about 70 percent of Max. The idea was to have her stretch out her leg, work her calves, and get her heart rate in a zone that would burn some calories.

When performing an interval like this, it is best to keep the bottom of your foot above your toes, kind of like a sprinter in running. This will work your legs differently than when you are riding seated.

Play around with the interval intensity and how many you perform. Personally, for myself, I plan on riding the bike for 20 mins, and then doing 5 of these @ 60 sec per rep. My heart rate goes between 150 to 165 and provides me with a good sweat.

As always, check with a physician before performing this drill.
